Harmonic reducers and RV reducers are common deceleration devices used to reduce the speed of mechanical moving parts and provide greater torque output. Although they can all achieve similar functions, there are some important differences in structure and working principle.

Firstly, the working principles of harmonic reducers and RV reducers are different. Harmonic reducer utilizes the principle of harmonic vibration to achieve deceleration, while RV reducer achieves deceleration by connecting gears of different structures in series.
The harmonic reducer adopts the principle of elliptical displacement and is composed of an outer circular gear, an inner circular gear, and a flexible ring. When the drive shaft rotates, harmonic vibrations are generated between the outer circular gear and the flexible ring, thereby achieving deceleration by changing the relative position of the inner and outer gears. Harmonic reducers have a compact structure, high reduction ratio, and high transmission efficiency.
The RV reducer consists of a ring gear and a helical gear. By fixing the ring gear on the output shaft and connecting it to the input shaft through the helical gear, the deceleration function is achieved. RV reducers are widely used in industrial production due to their simple structure, large capacity, and ability to achieve large reduction ratios.
Secondly, there are structural differences between harmonic reducers and RV reducers. The structure of harmonic reducer is relatively complex, consisting of multiple components, including drive shaft, flexible ring, internal and external gears, etc. These components require precise machining and assembly to ensure the normal operation of the reducer. In contrast, the structure of RV reducers is simpler, consisting only of ring gears and helical gears, which can achieve easier production and maintenance.
Harmonic reducers and RV reducers also have certain differences in their application fields. Harmonic reducers, due to their high reduction ratio and small size, are suitable for applications that require high volume but high torque output and transmission accuracy, such as precision mechanical equipment, robots, solar tracking systems, etc. RV reducers are suitable for industrial automation equipment that requires large output torque and reduction ratio, such as CNC machine tools, packaging machinery, etc.
In addition, harmonic reducers and RV reducers also have certain characteristics and problems during operation. Harmonic reducers, due to their complex structure, require long-term operation and debugging to achieve optimal performance. In addition, the manufacturing cost of harmonic reducers is relatively high and expensive.
In summary, although harmonic reducers and RV reducers are commonly used deceleration devices, their working principles, structures, and application fields are different. Choosing appropriate reducers based on specific application requirements and budgets is of great significance for the performance and efficiency of mechanical equipment.
