The speed of micro DC motors is very fast, ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. Therefore, there are many products that use micro DC motors. However, some industry products have very low speed requirements, such as smart locks, 3D pens, automatic infusion pumps, etc., which only require a few hundred or tens of revolutions per minute. At this time, we need to add a gearbox on the micro DC motor to slow down the motor. The calculation of reduction ratio is very important, and below we will introduce the calculation method of reduction ratio.

The concept of reduction ratio
What is the reduction ratio? Simply put, it refers to the transmission ratio of a gearbox, which is the ratio produced when a micro DC motor is powered and instantly outputs speed to the gearbox, represented by "i". For example, if the input speed of a micro motor is 1500r/min and the output speed through a gearbox is 25r/min, then the reduction ratio is 60:1.
The importance of reduction ratio
A micro reduction motor is composed of a micro motor and a reduction gearbox. The reduction ratio determines the output speed and torque of the motor. Some products require motors with slow speed and high torque, so the reduction ratio calculation is necessary to produce a micro DC motor that meets the product requirements.
Classification of Micro DC Reduction Motors
Due to the wide range of applications of micro motors, all of which are customized, different products require different parameters. Therefore, there are many types and models of micro reduction motors, and different reduction motors are used in different fields. Models, parameters, and reduction ratios of planetary reduction motors, stepper reduction motors, worm gear reduction motors, and so on are all different.
At the same power, the faster the speed, the smaller the torque (commonly known as force), and conversely, the lower the speed, the larger the torque. The larger the reduction ratio, the greater the torque and the lower the speed.

Definition of calculation method for reduction ratio: Reduction ratio=input speed ÷ output speed; General calculation method: Reduction ratio=used torque, motor power, motor power input speed, usage coefficient; Calculation method for gear system: Reduction ratio=number of teeth on the driven gear ÷ number of teeth on the driving gear; Calculation method for reduction ratio of belts, chains, and friction wheels: Reduction ratio=transmission wheel diameter ÷ driving wheel diameter.
