Complete Guide to Gearbox Selection: From Principles to Practical Applications
Basic principles and core parameters of high-speed machines

Realize through gear meshing:
Speed reduction: i=n ₁/n ₂
Torque increase: T ₂=T ₁ × i × η
(where i is the transmission ratio and η is the transmission efficiency)
Six step method for selection calculation
Determine basic parameters
2. Required output speed: n ₂=device required speed (rpm)
3. Working torque: T=9550 × P/n ₂ (N · m)
(P is the power kW, considering the impact coefficient of 1.2-2.0)
1. Input speed: n ₁=rated motor speed (rpm)
3.2 Calculate transmission ratio
i = n₁ / n₂
Recommended deviation between actual transmission ratio and theoretical value ≤ 5%
3.3 Verification of torque capacity
T_cal = T × S_f × S_a
(S.f: service coefficient, S_a: Application coefficient)
3.4 Thermal power verification
P_therm = P × K₁ × K₂ ≥ P_rated
(K ₁: environmental coefficient, K ₂: cooling coefficient)
3.5 Axial load verification
F_ax ≤ 0.5 × F_ax_max (normal operating conditions)
F_ax ≤ 0.3 × F_ax_max (impact condition)
3.6 Accuracy Matching
Select the return gap level according to the positioning accuracy requirements:
High precision: ≤ 3arcmin
• Ordinary level: ≤ 8arcmin
Key selection considerations
1. Overload protection: The instantaneous peak torque shall not exceed 200% of the rated value
2. Installation method: The choice of flange/base type affects the heat dissipation performance
3. Lubrication method:
• grease lubrication: long maintenance free cycle
Oil lubrication: good heat dissipation performance
4. Environmental adaptability:
• Anti corrosion grade: IP65/IP67
• Temperature range:- 40℃~120℃
Scientific selection requires comprehensive consideration of mechanical characteristics, working conditions, and economic factors. It is recommended to prioritize suppliers who have passed GB/T 19001 certification and retain a safety margin of 10-20%.
