Single phase asynchronous motors, as one of the widely used types of motors in household appliances and industrial equipment, have a presence in various fields. From the perspective of construction and operation mechanism, this type of motor can be subdivided into multiple types.

An asynchronous motor driven by a single-phase AC power source is called a single-phase asynchronous motor. Due to its single-phase AC power supply, easy operation, wide application, simple structure, low cost, low noise, and weak radio interference, it is often used in household appliances and light power machinery with low power, such as electric fans, washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, range hoods, drills, medical equipment, small fans, and household water pumps. It is worth noting that the standard single-phase voltage in China is 220V, while international standards such as American 120V, Japanese 100V, and European 230V are different. Therefore, when using foreign single-phase asynchronous motors, it is necessary to ensure that the rated voltage of the motor matches the local power supply voltage.
1、 Types of single-phase asynchronous motors
1. Capacitor starting single-phase asynchronous motor: This type of motor is connected in series with capacitors in the stator winding to achieve starting and operation, with strong starting torque, but relatively low efficiency, suitable for scenarios requiring large starting torque.
2. Resistance starting single-phase asynchronous motor: This type of motor is connected in series with a resistor in the stator winding, which has a small starting torque and high efficiency, and is suitable for environments with small starting torque requirements.
3. Capacitor operated single-phase asynchronous motor: A motor with parallel capacitors in the stator winding, with small starting torque and high efficiency, suitable for situations that require both small starting torque and high efficiency.
4. Dual value capacitor single-phase asynchronous motor: This type of motor has two capacitors connected in parallel in the stator winding, which has a large starting torque and high efficiency. It is suitable for situations that require both large starting torque and high efficiency.
5. Shield pole single-phase asynchronous motor: A motor that adds a shield pole coil to the stator winding has a large starting torque and high efficiency, suitable for situations that require both large starting torque and high efficiency.
2、 Characteristics of single-phase asynchronous motor
1. Simple structure: A single-phase asynchronous motor consists of basic components such as stator, rotor, bearings, and end caps, which makes its manufacturing cost low and easy to maintain and replace.
2. Fast start-up: Single phase asynchronous motors do not need to be synchronized with the rotating magnetic field of the stator, and only need to overcome small inertial resistance during start-up, so the start-up performance is excellent and can reach the rated speed in a short time.
3. Difficulty in speed regulation: Due to the direct correlation between speed and power frequency, changing the frequency is complex, resulting in poor speed regulation performance. Usually, it is necessary to adjust the voltage or use other speed regulation methods.
4. Low power factor: The motor generates reactive power during operation, resulting in a decrease in power factor, low efficiency, and significant pressure on the power grid. The power factor can be improved through methods such as capacitor compensation.
5. Obvious noise and vibration: Due to the large air gap, the motor operates with high noise and vibration, which may affect the surrounding environment and equipment. Noise reduction and vibration reduction measures can be taken.
6. Wide application fields: Single phase asynchronous motors are widely used in household appliances and industrial equipment due to their simple structure, low cost, and excellent starting performance, such as fans, washing machines, air conditioners, as well as industrial equipment such as water pumps and compressors.
Overall, single-phase asynchronous motors are favored in various fields due to their wide applicability and low-cost advantages. However, its speed regulation performance, power factor, noise, and vibration issues also limit its application in specific situations. With the development of technology, the performance of single-phase asynchronous motors is expected to be improved, and their application scope will be further expanded.
